5. What did you learn about yourself (as a burgeoning artist) from doing this project?

  1. What did i learn about myself...? Well, I learned that not everything has to be described through words, or through lyrics, but as straight out music. This opened up my eyes.

  2. As a dancer, I learned that you have to believe in yourself in able to accomplish anything. Anna Pavlova believed that she could still flourish as an artist even in the midst of the war. I need to do exactly this to make sure that I succeed as a dancer. Anna also didn't let anything stop her from doing what she loved. I need to remember to do this too. I can't let anything get in the way of doing what I love.

  3. I learned that being an professional dancer comes with many jobs. Knowing what your doing and how to do it is very important. If you don't know what your doing , how do expect to get somewhere in life ? I've accomplished many great things that has come from being a very good student learning everything I needed to know and just doing my best . Being a dancer you can't pay attention to everyone else about what their doing or what their saying . You have to be focused on you and only you and I'm pretty sure that will make you a very successful dancer . Even though I had a very strong opponent , Marie Salle , I couldn't let her get to me . I had to pay attention to me and only me , which is what got me through my dance career .

  4. As a musician, I never spent a great amount of time exploring the work of a single classical composer for a long period of time. It was interesting to listen to many of his compositions and point out compositional tricks and musical things he does. I also found it interesting to read about how Mozart began music at such a young age and the hardships he faced in his lifetime. Though I did not begin music quite as young as he, I found that I could relate to him quite a lot. It didn't stop him from doing what he loved, and it gives me inspiration and drive to keep doing what I love as well.

  5. I learned a lot about myself from doing this project. I understand how easy it is now being an artist then it was back then. We have advanced technology, advanced medicine, and most importantly no racism. I think it would have been hard for me to be a violinist will being criticized because of my race. I have accomplished more than Gussie L. Davis has because of our time differences. I probably wouldn't be an artist during the Industrial era and I am glad that I have the opportunity to be a violinist and achieve my dreams

  6. I learned that no matter what you go through, if what you do is your passion, then you should be able to accomplish your dreams of getting anywhere you want to be. Also, I learned researching unknown artist is a hard thing to do (especially when you can barely find anything about them) but in the end I pushed through the work. The interview was tough and I couldn't believe I could do that much work before! This was especially inspired by Adelaide because she never gave up and she continued to push herself to be a better painter. Anything obstacle in her way she pushed down and I believe I can follow in her footsteps amd do this too to achieve my dreams.

  7. I learned alot about myself by working on this project. I learned that I can stay on other websites as long as I can on Myspace. I learned how to manage my time and how to get stuff turned in on the interenet by a certain dead line or Ms.Andreadis will give you a F. I also learned how to email a project and how to communicate with my teachers by email when I need help. I learned from my artist that she was really determined and it doesn't matter where you are from the color of your skin or your shape of your body different people can have different talents and when you are really determined and have faith and your self you can make it to the top no matter where your coming from which my artist is a jazz singer who is coming from poverty and had little and still beileved in her self to be successful

  8. I know now that I have an unhealthy obsession with musical instruments. It's gotten bad. The sad thing is, all these instruments I have been researching for the past two months are upwards of a hundred thousand dollars. hm. But that's relatively meaningless. Learning about Lloyd Loar has mostly shown me that art is not always a painting, or a piece of music, but art can be anything one wants it to, from a telephone pole to a mandolin.

  9. I have realized how relatively lucky I am as a musican. Wilma Neruda was put through the worst of times just to be taken seriously as a human being.
Also, I am seeing how much times have not only leveled out (in regards to men and women musicians)but have gone the opposite direction. There are countless female violinists now, which makes competition harder to get into symphonies as a woman. Male violinists are higher valued than females because they are much more rare. I'm not complaining, however. There will always be roadblocks obstructing the view to your goals. It just takes some perseverence and patience to travel down the right path.

  10. Burgeoning, Ms. Andreadis? Seriously? You're the best. Anyways. Learning about Clara Schumann's accomplishments as a pianist helped me realize that I can reach as high, aim as high, shoot for the moon. That there is no limit on your goals. And it made me realize how much I love paying piano, and how much I took it for granted. It's crazy, because I was almost ready to throw it all away. But I could never pull music out of my life forever. At all. Playing piano is my life, as it was Clara's. Her dedication awed me, and I want to match that dedication, to shoot for the moon and at least land among the stars.

  11. I think learning about times when not a lot of people liked a certain piece of work that Victor Louis made was a contributing factor in helping to remind me that there is always going to be something about who I am and something about whatever field I go into in my life that somebody doesn't like. There will be someone who critizes at some point in your life you till the day you die, and might still not be in favor of you after you have gone to whichever after world you go to. Plus it reminds me that you are probably not going to be excellent at whatever you try in the field you go into in life. I realize that Victor Louis had different interest in his career as an architect than I did in his career. I was also reminded that there are obstacles that everyone has and/or will face in their lifetime. It's just a part of life. I don't really think I learned anything new about myself by researching Victor Louis, but was re-taught common life lessons. I do know about the pre-existing stress I kind of was faced with. I absolutely do not think this was a bad project to do, but I just get so overwhelmed and anxious with due dates and getting my work done fine and in on time, which I wouldn't say makes me cheerful. I did enjoy learning about these people we did our blogs on. S.P.W. bell 1

  12. As a musician and as a female, I never knew that so many woman struggled to get to where I am today. The sad thing about it all is that I didn't really do that much to get where I am now, compared to what mine and other artists did I did nothing. It was a choice that I decided to make to become a musician. Woman in the Enlightment Era were looked down upon just as servants and wives of their husbands and higher class. They had no voice in what they wanted to do. Men made decisions for them in politicly and in their households. This makes me appreciate music more and to take it more seriously. This project is a "third" eye-opener to me, especially as a young lady.

  13. I learned alot during this project. Even though it was stressful I think it all played a part in every student that had to do it. Just reading about people that also enjoy doing what you do just in a different time period was very interesting. I also learn hard work pays because staying up all night typing interviews and posting comments was a lot to me but at the end of the day I got the grade I deserved and earned. It was tough but this got me ready for college. I also learned to never give up and go after your dreams because thats what my artist did and shes known all around the world. Its not where your from but how your going to get there.

  14. Myself as a dancer, I have learned that in order to reach your full potential you have to have confidence, and no matter what obstacle comes in your way just dance through it an maybe that'll help you get over it. Also you have to believe not only in yourself but in your abilities. Irene Castle was a very dedicated person to her work, she set a goal as a young girl to be a dancer not only on broadway but just for herself and she achieved that goal and became one of the best dancers of her time. This is a good example of what any dancer needs to do just to strive and stay ontop of things and to be there absolute best. I have learned alot from doing this project, Irene was truly an influence.

  15. Well, I've learned that things dont just come easy. You have to wait for your time to shine! Just like with Oliver, he didnt plan on becoming an actor. He just went for what he wanted to do and acting came out of the blue. But with me , I learned its not bad to just go take a look at someone else's life. See what their doing and how somethings they say may help you out with your life. . [DW 7]

  16. I think what I learned from thomas was that the sky is a limit. Like so many other inventors out there in the world who do not get the fame the earn, tech is some what under noticed. I know its not about us, but we would like a little honoring for our hard work. Yet with all that said, its cool. I will keep doing tech because it is fun learning new things, and working behind the scenes.

  17. Well, I learned that i was a very gifted person. I think without the situations i had went through, then i would have never made it to were i am today. I found out that I did alot more things than i thought i would in a life time. I found out it takes alot of hard work and detication.

  18. I learned, that there are many different ways of telling a story of someones life. it was neat to look through the other artists and get a feel for their art, just from the pictures. I learned how important artists are to each other, and how ones influence can drastically change anothers work. Overall, I learned many valuable tools fro research as well as common knowlege about many famous people.

  19. I learned that your art doesn't need to be famous to be great. My artist was a very little known man, but he expressed his view on events that were going on during his time through art, and now people can look at it and see what he meant. He wasn't the most famous on the block, but he expressed his feelings and gained worldwide recognition.

  20. What I learned about myself from this project is that you have to go far in order to be successful. Antonio Salieri had hardships in his life that he had to surpass in order to become successful. Work doesn't just fall into your reaches, you have to strive to get it. Antonio Salieri played violin, as do I, he eventually became a composer instead of playing the violin. Your current art may turn into something else, that is the general thing I learned from this project.

  21. This project took a long time, and hard work. At first i was scared and unsure about the big picture. I really did not think i could do it. I couldn't really rap my head around it. I thought finding a person alone was going to be hard work, that took me awhile. But a lot of hard work and concentration got me through it. I really am not much of a computer person, so when i found out this was all about computers i was very scared. A lot of the time I had no idea what all of this blog stuff was about. In he end i did figure it out. I really learned about myself that i can get through things that are harder for me and feel really good about it in the end.

  22. Ive learned that i am not what i believed my self to be.I believed that i was an mediocre artist, that i wasnt as good as all other artist.I now know that i am just as talented as even some of the greatest artist i just have my own style of painting and sketching etc.Just like Edvard Munch my artwork revolves around the nude body it is not smutt or pornography it is just simply i type of art that i enjoy to make.Doing this project helped me see and understand that artist have all different types of ways they do art and i have my own unique one.

  23. I have learned that there may be many things that artists want to do and want to accomplish but it will take time and patience to get to where you want to be. I learned that you can be what ever you want to be and do whatever you want to do in life but just not when you want to. I have wanted to do a great amount of things and thought it would be easy, but with doing this project I have learned that everything takes practice and there are challenging things that I have to try to overcome and conquer.

  24. Throughout this project, I have realized that there are more famous playwrights and actors of the past than william shakespeare. When I first started this project, I will admit I had no clue who Moliere was. I never really knew about artists in this time period. This project really opened me up to become more aware of artists and when they existed.

  25. I learned that there are many, many more different kinds of artists in the world and in its history than most people think. There are hundreds and hundreds of different genres of artwork. All you have to do is look. If it weren't for this project, for example, I would've never known about Rosa Bonheur or her paintings of wildlife, and I would have never notice how many similarities we have. Delving into the history of your major certainly pays off, and helps you understand what you are trying to achieve more than before.

  26. I learned that if I pratice real hard and play real good I can be a famous clarinetist.

  27. Throughout this project, I have come to realize that I do not need to be completely positive of what I am going to do when I graduate. I do not need to panic about making the right choice. Lewis Hine was just a normal worker for several years, then a teacher for a couple more years, and then a world traveling photographer. I also learned that I can make beautiful artwork out of just hard work and sweat alone. Money is not always needed to make art. If I put enough effort into it, I can do just about anything to make my artwork look "good."

  28. I've learned a couple cool little things as I worked on this blog. I used to make up a situation before I listened to music, and played it out to the music, but I realized that's not the way to go. See, you have to listen to the music and make a situation as you listen. There's no other good way, if you're putting your full mind to listening. It's also the best way to listen during a concert, and really, the most considerate. You are generally not expected to draw in a concert hall while there's a concert.

  29. From this project, I feel that I have really conected with the artists of this time period. Like Bach I will aspire to become the best violinist in the orchestra, keep my posture correct and never take the violin for granted.
Seeing how all these peolpe, even with their limitations, excel as being an artist has opened me up to new possibilities.

  30. Working on this whole project I have learned many things. But most important I learned that to never let anything get in your way of your goal in life. Even if it is somebody as big as the government telling you that you can't do it, still prove them wrong. I learned that nothing just comes to you. If you want to do something in life you have to ACTUALLY strive for it. Not just sit there and wait. It's going to take a while and many hardships. But in the end, it's all worth it.

  31. I now feel more open to possibilities I can reach playing the violin. Seeing all these artists, even with the limitations of their time, excel in the world of art has shown how possible things are if you just try. I hope to one day be the head of my orchestra and maybe even compose music. This project has really helped understand what it means to play the violin.

  33. I learned that I could be like the Bournonville's. I dance now but that is not all I have to do all my life. I can dance now and later do something else in the dance world. Also, they were both very dedicated workers and did not just dance in class, but put effort in at home and took extra classes. I learned that to be successful you have to be dedicated if you really want to be great at what you do. I have been inspired by them and actually started to take more dance classes outside of school and found my passion for contemporary dance and want to go further with that style. I have realized there are going to be obstacles I have to face, but I just have to find a detour and get over it to get further.

  34. As a writer, I learned that I should never give up no matter what obstacles get in my way. My outside should never define who I am as a writer. I should write even when others do not approve. I thank Phillis Wheatley for teaching me that important lesson.

  35. I've learned that it takes determination to get to where I am. Maybe we just take it for granted, but talented people never really seem to realize how lucky they truly are, to have the ability to do such amazing things. And that if you give up when it gets tough, then you are gonna have a hard time following your dream.

  37. Through this research I learned that you really have to pursue your own career and can't rely on others to help you start your career. Also that you have to take chances and risks that may seem ridiculous, but may turn out for the better in your end. Samuel Hannaford never gave up. He pushed and pushed to pursue his career, and now he is one of the world most known architects. Overall this research has been a lesson of history that can be used everyday.

  38. I learned that it takes a hell of a lot of hard work to be great at what you want to to in life. In my case, I need to work very hard at being an exellent musician like Coleman Hawkins. I don't know if I will ever get to his level, but I know that either way I will face many challenges along the way that I will need to overcome in order to fursue and achieve my dream.

  39. I have learned that by keeping your skills at there top is key to oportunities. To strive and even when people doubt you, just go for it and you will succeed. I would hope to become anything that my artist was, and any other inspiring artist should want to thrive. I will build and design as if it is my life, which it technically is.

  40. I learned that even though Marie Camargo went through many ups and downs throughout her dance career she managed to accomplish a lot ! She invented two things dance in about 74-78 ballets and had dishes named after her . I learned that she never gave up because of the era she was in, or because of what the political press would say about her . She never gave up , she just continued to do what she loved to do which is dance and never let anything come in her way.

  41. I learned that I could relate to my artist as an actor who loves to act and also wear many hats in the profession. My actor was an all around performer and also a playwright, producer and business owner. I have performed in plays, TV commercials, modeling ads and I also love to write songs and sing and play instruments. It is exciting to be an all around performer and be following in the footsteps of such an amazing actor.

  42. I learned that me and my artist are at the same level of eagerness to succeed in what we do. Mary Pickford ricked so much to get into the business which is somewhat hard to do as an actress/actor. I would be just as willing to succeed in life in general and just as willing to succeed as an actress while still paying attention to my grades.I also learned that striving to a goal and sticking to it could eventualy make you an american icon. By working hard at what is important to you eventualy makes up for any losses you had in the process of becoming successful.

  43. From this project, I learned how tough it can be to be an artist. It's hard to get your work out there and for it to be respected and taken in the light that you'd like it to be taken in. Being an artist sometimes sounds like a glamorous life, but when you take on someone who is so passionate about their work, you realize that most of the time, people just aren't in it for the money, they're in it for the love of doing what you do best.

  44. I learned so much about being an artist. I learned that artistry has no bounds. Creativity is limitless. I learned that art isn't about pleasing people or even pleasing yourself, and that has been a very valuable lesson for me. Kiki wasn't afraid of throwing herself out there, so what if people scoffed or laughed! Art means something different to everyone, and it was amazing to be able to feel what it was like for Kiki, even if just a little bit.

  45. I have learned that we are given artistic gifts for a reason. No matter what situation we must use them the best we can. Many of these artists had to come over racial and social obsticals so their talents could be known. Since the times of segragation isn't as bad as it used to be, I think that it can be easier to let our talents flourish. We still do have to overcome personal obsticals and other things. I really enjoyed researching my artists I found it very interesting! D.B 1
