1. How do you think the time period in which a person lives affects their ability to create?

  1. The time period in which my person lives gave him the ability to fully express himself through his solo work and through his orchestra. The World War I era also allowed VL to come to terms with the feelings he had of the war, and the world around him. Growing up on Brazil, he got to fully experience the outdoors, and the landscape throughout his life, which, also played a role in his composing career

  2. I think that for a normal person living during a war, they would have a difficult time showcasing their art. They would feel trapped and shut out from the world. For my person, Anna Pavlova, she actually received a great experience from World War 1. To escape the war in Russia, she made a decision to travel around the world. Traveling taught her so many things that she could incorporate into her talent, and she had a huge amount of fun discovering new things on her travels. I feel as though the time period that you live in only affects you the way you make it affect you. If you don't do anything to help yourself dig out of a hole, you will stay there. If you attempt to do something useful, you will blossom and flourish like a flower.

  3. I think it effects a persons ability to create because my person's era was during WWI one of the most known wars of all time and it was difficult for her to do her shows and dance at certain places cause of where the war was. She was also executed during the WWI because she was tricked by a German solider. I think the time period had a lot to do with peoples ability to do certain things and the use of money and etc.

  4. The time period defnitly affects if you can become successful. My person Bessie Smith as an African American there was allot of troubles in her life which is a reason she decided to sing Blues. She lived in a time where there was allot of segregation which many African Americans did not get treated fairly. It also was hard for them to perform in many places as African Americans, many places aloud few African Americans to perform in there clubs such as white clubs. My artist Bessie Smith I beilieve has brought African Americans and White people together with her music. She became popular by performing at many jazz clubs and amazing people with her incredible voice. One thing everyone can relate to at times is the Blues.

  5. I believe that things, events, and ideas inspire artists to become who and what they are today. In my case, the period in which my artists uprose was a very inspirational time period. Wars between the world gave him inspiration to create ready mades, and works of art based on surrealism and cubism.

  6. I think that the ability a person has to create their art can sometimes be affected by the time period in which they live. Sometimes during a period of War, some restrictions may be put on creativity. During the cultural revolution in China, many restrictions were placed on artists. Although some restrictions may be placed, I believe that an artist always has the ability to keep improving and producing their work. Throughout the course of History art has been attacked and challenged many times, however it is still a very prominent figure in todays society. It is hard to place restrictions on art.

  7. I think that a time period that a person follows effects their ability to create tremendously. If your time period is in a depression or in an era where there is a lack of money or resources, artists cannot create to the best of their ability. They don't have the drive or the help. The time period of a person can either make or break them. My person was in a time period of Industrialization and the cities were extremely overpopulated and it was hard to get any kind of job because everyone needed one. It was hard to make any kind of living because there was such a lack of money. It was extremely hard. I think that a person's time period, such as my person, effects their ability to create their work.

  8. I think a woman in the Enlightment Era had various obstacles in their ability in advertising artwork and music. Men were automatically respected more because they were thought of higher authority. A woman showcasing works of art was not taken seriously in the Enlightment Era. Woman were usually house wives cleaning and taking care of their children. They depended on their husbands for food and money. When woman were coming up as famous artists, musicians, scientists, etc., this was a very exciting time for this era especially for woman.

  9. I think that a certain time period effects a persons ability to create, by the certain events happening in the world at the time and the influences that the world is changing and revolving into at that time. For my artist Irene Castle she had a rough struggle during this time her husband Vernon Castle died in an aircraft incident while the war was going on. Not only did she have to live without her life partner, she had to dance without her dance partner either. The guy who opened her eyes to dance. So as you see the time period really can effect a person and their ability to create.

  10. i believe the period in which someone lives in affects their ability to create by creating boundries. Such as my artist, Samuel Hannaford, was bounded by not having technology such as we do today to create buildings. Then there are woman artists who are bound by being frowned upon by men, whom believed woman shouldn't be artists. But all of these artists seemed to break these boundries and create the art they wanted to!

I think that the era affects them in which the way they think. The way they create there music art or conduct themselves. I know during the enlightenment era there was a more free idea of thinking more artistic points of view. I was on some of the enlightenment blogs and one of them really caught my eye Nicolo Paganini his music was so moving and lively. People enjoyed his music and they loved him but they also acused him for making a pact with the devil because his music was so great. The era does affect the way people create but also the people affect themselves.

  12. Every time period throughout history has been significantly different. Each year wether it be in America, Europe or any where in the wold, over time has developed. When years go by we get more an more technologically advanced. Technology can really affect the way a person or artist advances. When you are more in the future, it can either help you or not depending on how you use it. Back then there were less dancers than there are now. It is harder to out shine the hundreds and thousands of dancers there are today. I believe that years ago it was easier to become a famous dancer or artists because there wasn't technology and many dancers to compete with.

  13. The time period in which one lives can do a lot for their work. Antonio Salieri, for example, his time and place was very influential, composing for the royal family of Vienna made a great impact on his later work. Also the time he was in was a very classical era, there were lots of other composers who wrote some of the same kinds of music, like Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Anyone has the ability to create, but the ability to create well depends a lot on your time. If Salieri's time was a very good one for his line of work, he creates more successfully then if he was in a different time period without that kind of work.

  14. I think that the society of the time period a person lives affects and influences their work. For example, for an artist who lived during the Enlightenment, there is a good chance that their work would have been influenced by new artistic ideas of many people in the society in which they live in. My artist lived during the Revolutionary era in France, where the artistic and architectural style of Louis XIV was very popular. That was a factor that influenced my a lot of the work of my artist. Also, during the French Revolution, not everybody was financially living like Louis XIV, so, economic aspects can affect an artist's work too. I also believe that some societies might not have been open minded about women being artists, that they might have felt that that wasn't the proper role for women. I think many people in some societies would have believed that women shouldn't be recognized for their contributions. In some countries and time periods, women were restricted of many rights that men were allowed to have, so if some women discovered that they had an artistic talent, they might have been inclined to hide it from their families and society to avoid possible persecution. Men wouldn't have to face gender discrimination, but there were a lot of artists who had faced racial discrimination or maybe even religious discrimination. S. P. W. Bell 1

  15. I think the time period in which a person lives effects thier ability to create because, when there is something that may be tragic going on, it could be a challenge to go on with what you are doing. Maybe there could even be something good that goes on in that time period that can make you think of great ideas to further stretch your creative abilities. This can also effect how people feel in life whether if it makes them happy or sad. My artists, George M. Cohan, performed and performed, and he went on with life. George also had friends and family that were always by his side so this also helped boost his creative abilities so that he could show others his talent. The WWI era was pretty challenging, but i'm sure that many people were great at doing their talent, and was not afraid to show it.

  17. The time period definitely affects everyone in every career field, but especially in an artistic field. As a black man in the 1920s and 1930s, Coleman Hawkins had many difficulties becoming a successful musician. It was very rare back then to have black artists around. He, and many others of the time, really revolutionized the style at that time to become successful. They forced themselves into the world of art and won.

  18. The time period in which my person lived affected them very deeply. Seeing all the pain in the world (WW1) made my artist very sad. He expressed himself through his art, which was also good for his career. While many people weren't focused on art during the war, my artist was able to make a name for himself, and achieve a small amount of fame. The time period affected my artist's art, and his art affected the time.

  19. The time does actually affect how people create because there could be some limitations that suppress some people's creativity or what they are allowed to do. For instance, the Enlightenment time period limited my artist's, Adelaide Labille-Guiard, learning process because she was a women. She was not allowed to learn under men, but through determination she got by and learned the art she thought she would not be able to do. Also, certain events like the French Revolution were going on in Adelaide's time and she made art that supported it.

  20. The time period when you make something is really important, especially for music. If you want music to be mainstream, you have to conform to whatever genre is popular right now. Even if you don't, you have to follow many rules for any genre of music, so you can't just use a clarinet and tuba to make pop music.

  21. I believe that the time period has a big effect on an artist's ability to create. Time changes, and so do things around it. What was the thing 20 years ago could be similar, but would most likely not be the same today. New things can evolve in an instant, with the inspiration of things around you. The simplest things one moment, could be the next big thing in your viewers eyes.

  22. The time period of an artist greatly affects their creations. An artist who lives today may find the ways and beliefs of a knight funny, whereas people who actually lived at that time may see the knights code as the only way to live in life. As time changes, so do styles and and beliefs. this separates someone like Shakespeare from a person like Neil Simon. Even though future artists may learn from past artists, Each learn their own style.

  23. I believe that the time period that we live is one of the biggest things that affect an artist work.My artwork, personally, revolves around the things that are happening today. My main artworks are revolved around the nude figures of male and female bodies alike. Our generation are alot more comfortable with showing are bodies, which is kind of unfortunate and fortunate, then people did in the imperialism age.My work closely resembles the work of Edvard Munch but i guess you can just say we have similar taste except i aim to show the beauty of women in my drawing whereas he did not.

  24. Gussie L. Davis was during the Industrial era and it very much affected his work. Being an African-American composer was not a easy job and a huge risk knowing that people would judge your music just because you were a different race. Before Gussie L. Davis even started his career his admission to Nelson's Musical College was denied because of race. He had to work as a janitor at the school and in return received schooling. I believe being raised in a certain time can affect your work but you shouldn't let it change you. Gussie L. Davis was raised in a harsh time but he never gave up.

  25. At my artists time, his talent wasn't a popular one. It wasn't as hard as if he was a woman, but difficult to get into the world. It helped a lot though that my artist was president of the united states and had a great education. It takes time to master a class, and i think that Thomas did a great job to be a master of building.

  26. I believe that an artist's time period greatly affects their work. In a period where there are different genres of art that are popular than other time periods, the artist is more likely to make the art that is popular then than it was say, a decade ago. However, if an artist strives to go against the norm and create work thst is different than what one usually saw during that time, that artist leaves a greater impression in people's minds. After all, there are many artists that were in poverty most of their life, or their artwork simply wasn't that popular when they were alive, but their art was later celebrated when people realized how beautiful it was.
Or an artists gender or social status may prevent them from being popular as much as possible. My artist, Rosa Bonheur, broke away from what women were expected to act like and did many things that were restricted only to men, such as smoking in public or wearing trousers. As a result, her and her paintings and castings were greatly celebrated both in her life and after she died.

  27. The time period in which someone lives greatly affects their ability to create. As a woman, the earlier the time, the less she would be taken seriously in society as an artist or for that matter just someone who worked outside the home. Even being a minority in a time where it was unheard of for them to become successful. Julie Candeille worked around the time of the French Revolution, and for her it was easier to find people willing to support her because woman were becoming more widely accepted in fields other than keeping house or raising children. Its not only the time period that can affect ones ability to create, it may too be where they live. In America today, it isn't hard at all to find millions of people who will support you as an artist no matter who you are, where you live, or what your gender. There will always be some who will try to discourage one from being different or trying to bring something new to the table. Its just always nice have the option, which I am so honored to have.

  28. I feel the time period in which somebody lives affects their ability to create greatly, in good ways and bad ways. Of course many people will want to do what they feel their best at doing and try to be the first to accomplish it but that won't always happen like that. The reason being is because if the creator is an woman and she is trying to accomplish something she wants to make world known in an "sexist" era, it would probably be impossible for her to do. It wouldn't even happen just because she's a women. The men all around the world would laugh and talk about her because she feels she can do what they can do(the men). Maybe the era is the enlightenment. Their someone who is trying to get a very smart point across in the world and I feel this will happen because the enlightenment era was known for people thinking scientifically . The time period in which anyone lives in will indeed affect their ability to create .

  29. My artist lived through the great depression, and as you can guess, it was hard to make anything with no money. His company, Vivitone, had almost no sales during the nineteen thirties, and as consequence, his radical designs were not distributed to those who would appreciate them. These instruments were the first to have electromagnetic pickups, predating Leo Fender's first guitars by 30 years. it would have been interesting to see how the electric guitar world would be if black tuesday had never of happened. This is just one example of how an artists era can affect them.

  31. My artist would never have been able to be as successful as she was if it werent for the growing technology around her during the Romantic Period, which was around 1820-1900. The transportation vehicles were the reason she was as cultured as she was. It is because of the modern transport that Neruda was priveledged enough to go to The United States, Austrailia, and even South Africa, where there were songs created in her honor.
Being a woman during the 1800's caused problems, too. Neruda was expected to be a housewife, not a performer. She was frowned upon by chossing a different path; and the people that at least saw what she did didnt take it seriously.
The times are everything. Everything an artists does is caused by his or her surroundings. As hard as everything Wilma went through was, it pushed me even harder to reach my goals as a violinist.

  32. The time period in which any one person lives definitely affects their career and work. Their ability to create. For artists, the time period effects what society deems "acceptable", "worthwhile", and whatnot. It is a scandal if an artist paints a nude picture when nudity is a sin. It is an embarrassment if an instrumentalist plays a song that is too fast or too slow. In some time periods artists had more freedom to create, others were practically choked to death on the leash of society.

  33. The time period can effect an artists ability to create mainly because of technology. An artist may be able to create more fine art with more advanced tools. New instruments are constantly being made, each more easy to play than the last. And the actors in plays can work in more realistic sets and costumes as time progress's. The time period can have a great effect on the quality, and even quantity, of work.

  34. I believe the time period in which the artist was born affects the life of the artist greatly. There are always limitations and laws that existed which could either be a road block or a helping hand to an artist. A woman who wants to be the court musician or soloist in the 1800's will have a very hard time doing so. My artist was born during the Baroque Ages which was a time when music flourished, making it easy to excel as a musician and reach their dreams.

  35. My artist was a photographer. It was his job to take pictures of his time period. It was not possible for him to take photographs of the past or the future. He never would have been able to capture the American Civil War and he never would have been able to capture the fall of the Empire State Building. Every event that happened around him, every piece of history that occured in his time period, was something he lived with and worked off of. Without the conflict with child labor laws, Lewis Hine's work history would have been completely different. It was because of the events around him that he was able to create his art.

  38. The time period in which an artists live affects what they are creating because they know what they go through in their everyday life. Meaning that they know what need to be done that haven't been done to make their lives easier. Especially if it's a known common issue or situation that nobody had improved yet. For example ppl who couldn't do things because of their race or gender. They knew that it was wrong ( the victims) so many of them took stand and did something about it. It could even be something small such as needing to communicate with someone so creating a phone. But these changes won't just happen over night. They not only wanted a change, they wanted to be the change.

  39. The time period in which a person lives affects their ability to create because there are certain laws and limits to certain people. My person, Maud Powell was a violinist, composer, and celloist. But in order to get her professionally into those spots took alot. This was b/c she lived in the impearialist era in which women weren't allowed to do a lot for their own sake/rights. They weren't allowed to vote, barely work, and/or playing in orchestras. They were expected to be housewives. So, for Maud Powell to get where she finally got to, took a lot just because of her gender.

  40. The time period in which an artist lived can affect their abilities to flourish as an artist both positively and negatively. For example, a female artist whose work may be as equally creative as a male artist may not get as much credit or fame for her work. Oftentimes discriminations based on gender or race will prevent an artist's work from being recognized until years after their death. For my artist, this was not the case, as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart flourished greatly as a musician during his time. If he was female, this could very well have been different. He also lived during a time where his kind of music was flourishing.

  41. The time period in which my person lives has both challenged my artist and given many like her a voice. As an African American woman, she had alot to overcome in terms of racial and gender limitations. But she overcame it. She was the first female African American poet. The time period that she lived in gave her the strenth to excel because now she had something to prove.

  42. When I was discovering myself as an artist in the 1920s, it was a time that was both stifling and nourishing. Stifling, because I was a woman in an age that pushed women down and pushed women into jobs that were dull and smothered women's voices. Stifling because I was a model- often nude- and was shunned by a conservative society. But also nourishing in that the arts were blooming all over the place. So many people were out there to help me and teach me. The era and society in which an individual lives can really oppress a person, but that oppression is merely a test. If one can overcome that, they will go far.

  43. I think the time period in which a person lives can affect their ability to create for a variety of reasons. One example is gender. My artist was a male actor in the Revolutionary era and was able to perform in many plays. In other countries women were banned from performing as actors on stage. Men played most womens roles. Another example is salary. Actors in the Revolutionary era were not able to make millions of dollars like the actors of today.

  44. I think you are either made or broken by the time period that you lived in.i think the technologies of an artists can stunt the growth of their ability to do certin things. For example, as actor in the early ninteeth hundreds the technology was limited because on film you couldn't talk and there no color, you were limited by the technology of your time. Also i think the time period in which you live effects your views and opinions about the world at that time. Someone in the 1950's would have differnt fears and opinions of the world than someone now.

  45. I think that the time period had a big effect on my artists ablility to create. This was during the time when blacks were severely oppressed. So for my artist you can probably guess how he was treated. Being as talented as he was, he was probably treated even worse than the average African American, because whites didn't want blacks to succeed in life. I believe my artists overcame his obsticals and created at the best of his abilities. D.B 1
